Church Assignment
The other day, we went church hopping to find the architectural features. I had the chance to go into the first church of god in Ship. As we walked in, you notice that they have renovated it before but it seemed to follow the structure of the On Direction orientation. We entered at the priests study, but the Narthex was a smaller, box like, room that included a mosaic of Jesus Christ. His arms were wide opening almost like a welcoming gesture but it also seemed to be very similar to the Catacomb of Priscilla's sketch on the stone. They both probably have complete opposite meaning but it's a comparison.
.The architecture back in the past of the first church of god had more of a medieval time look as you can see in the sketch below in the top half but later they add the preacher's study and increased size
- The lower half of the sketches on the left, is the church's interior today. It is facing the back which shows a gallery up above for more seating. On the right, is the view from up above the gallery and as you can see it includes an area that is in place of the round area of an Apse. Off of the Apse is the Altar wear the priest hosts and introduces the service. The church followed the on direction orientation, obviously, and it also included the Nave down the center. They included a isle down the nave, if you can see, because "members of the church complained there was no isle for the bride."- the preacher from First Church of God. ON the interior it includes 3 arches, that they said used to be the altar but they covered it in drywall. The three arches compare to the arches in the Hagia Sophia and the chirch in general shares similar architecture.

This is a little votive figure statue from the ancient Mediterranean and it relates and shows what we learned about by showing what they were actually like.
. I enjoy this artwork because it's a ceramic vessel from the ancient Greek collection at the Penn Museum and it shows that it was the original "Olympics," as it says it originated from this time frame
Ziggurats: 8/29/18
A Ziggurats is a giant, stepped stone structure built in Mesopotamia, with a shrine or a temple on top. It was a temple but also included other buildings as well. It has a flat surface on the top, kind of like a terrace. The exterior was covered in brick but had a coating of glaze that was fired on the outside. They were used to protect the shrine or temple from flooding. The Ziggurat represented wealth and mostly homes of the city's gods.

This is a sketch of the interior I believe there are in ziggurats. If you glance you see the first floor, where I believe that was for the god while he's living. It includes rooms for him and below there are rooms for the preserves of the previous gods. Keep in mind the base is not fully hollow.
Here is another sketch on what I believe the layout of a ziggurat would look like on the outside. It kind of reminds you of a step pyramid, which in a way it is, but it's the start of the triangular shape at the base.
