Self Portrait Assignment
This self portrait of Gustave Courbet called The Desperate Man, is one I adore most because of the realism factor it expresses. The colors are accurate and the facial features are realistic and detailed which I try to do with my work.
This other self portrait I'm fascinated by is this one from Pablo Picasso. It's a charcoal sketch, which is also detailed and favors that realism factor like The Desperate Man. I really like the black and white on tinted paper because it gives it a rustic, plane feel. The detailed structure he made with the nose and left the back normal and messy is my favorite part of this sketch.
Metamorphosis Assignment
This is one of the most interesting pieces I found that include metamorphosis. I really like the change and formation of the butterflies. I wish they were birds but it's whatever. When I look at this piece, it shows meaning. I makes me feel like sometimes losing your mind is okay because you're more free to whatever.
I really like this piece also because it makes me have a deep, painful vibe. It kind of reminds me of Jackson Pollock and his style which is mostly pain and anger. The human face turning into cool patterns in expressive ways.
Social Commentary
I'm honestly in love with this photograph which is representing the issues of LGBT+ community. I'm not 100% sure if this is social commentary but this person, a day after taking this photograph, was murdered for being homosexual. Homophobia is a big issue all around the world today which gives me an idea for this assignment.
Another example of social commentary is how there are countries all around the world who were damaged by hurricane Irma and the others and everyone is standing around worrying about celebrities everywhere and their pregnancies. We are too glued to our cellular devices to care or help anyone else because we are selfish idiots who worry about a person who barely works for anything.
